Bio
Miao Xuan Liu (b Qingdao, China) is an emerging sculptor interested in the physical (material, chemical, animal) and metaphysical (affective, political, and poetic) dimensions of the body and the forces which enact control upon it. Formally trained in craft, Miao approaches form with a sensibility that seeks out the metaphoric potential of matter.
Currently, Miao’s research interests include capitalist legacies and fictions of the American Dream. Through the poetic, the abject, and the material as sites of possibility, Miao probes our relationship to things “other”: questioning the logic which underlies our fears, repulsions, and desire towards that which is unknown to us, and the lengths we go to protect related aspirations and beliefs.
